 | | | The South West Regional Director of the National Farmers Union, Anthony Gibson, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
Mr Gibson believes that it's a reward for the hard work he and his colleagues in the NFU have done over the last few years - which have seen tough times for farmers.
He is well known for speaking his mind - particularly during the foot-and-mouth crisis.
He was often highly critical of the way the Government handled the crisis, but says it's now time to work together for the benefit of the industry.
"It shows there are no hard feeling on the Prime Minister's part, which is good," he said.
"The important thing is that we work constructively together to take the industry forward.
"Winning this award doesn't mean I'm going to rest on my laurels and abandon the cause for which I've been fighting for a very, very long time," he vowed.
Mr Gibson's support for South West farmers during the foot-and-mouth outbreaks also won him great backing and respect from within the farming community.
