FACTS

The Tropical Rainforest Biome is the largest greenhouse in the world. It is 240 m long, over 100m's wide and 50 m high.

The Mediterranean Biome depicts hot dry summers and cool wet winters. These climates are found on the western sides of continents between 30-40 degrees N or S latitude. but they also include parts of California and South Africa, S.W Australia and Chile.

Within the Flowerless Garden at Eden there are ancient ferns. The ferns produce spores that break open forming moist green heart-shaped structures when they fall on damp ground. These hearts produce eggs and sperm. The sperm swim across the heart to the egg and fertilize it.

When we got there we all had to go down a really long steep path which also took 10 minutes. We all went in a big blue tent and a lady came in and talked to us. She asked us this question, " who likes plants" and I put my hand up.

Then she said that one of the domes (Biomes) was big enough for 13 double decker buses and half of the boys didn’t believe her! We went in the big domes and it was lovely.

We all went into the domes with our teachers and some of the helpers. I was with Mrs Ellis in one of the domes. It wasn’t that hot it was quite warm though. I thought it was good.

When I arrived at the Eden Project I went into the Mediterranean biome. This was the smallest one there. Inside it was lovely, cool and fresh and I saw violet and red flowers too.

After that I went into tropical rain forest biome and this was a great big biome. Inside the big biome my trousers were sticking to my leg! I found it hard to breath because it was hot.

In this tropical rain forest was a bridge with some water under it. In the water was a green slimy lizard that looked like a crocodile. I liked it when we saw the Bee man. He had a big long box with bees inside it. The Bee man also had some honey and he told the class a story about the Queen bees.

He talked about pollination and made it really funny. We had to eat our lunch in one of the tents and sat with a lady called Pam. She told us to stay together and if we got lost, look for one of the Eden team leaders to help us. The team leader would then take us back to our class.

I saw all kinds of trees, like lemon trees, orange trees, coconut trees and cocoa trees

We also went to see Indigo dying. We got cloth and rolled this up with elastic bands. We dyed this then let it dry. The cloth was very patterned with dye. We had a good time and I though it was fantastic there.

A lady came in to speak to us and tell us where everything was. After that we walked into the Indigo workshop to learn how to dye pieces of fabric. On our way to the Biome we saw a huge bee made out of feathers. It was quite warm in the dome and I saw a lemon tree and an orange tree. We had our lunch then in the tent and I sat next to Pheobe. We had yoghurt, crisps, a drink, an orange and Dairyleigh Dunkers

We went to the see Bee man after lunch and he had lots of bees. He wanted volunteers to help him and me and Pheobe put our hands up. We had to wear black bee masks and do a silly dance and Antigona was Queen bee.

After this we walked into the hot dome and I had to take off my jumper and coat because it was really hot. We saw banana, chewing gum, coffee, cola and chocolate trees.

We also saw a beautiful waterfall and me and Tiffany got our hair wet by the water spray! I stepped in the mud by the waterfall and Chelsea and Hayley laughed at me. After we walked outside and met up with the rest of the children from our class.
