My father owned and ran the Railway Inn at Culmstock during the Second World War. He was a character so some of the old locals told me on a recent visit to the village. It must have been great having all those steam trains passing by. what a beautiful unspoilt area.

William Comstock, b 1595 came to the US in ~ 1635. If you go to maps.google.com and enter Vauxhall St and Williams St New London Ct you will see the area near Post Hill that his residence was located. My grandmother was Elanor Marjory Comstock, family 7207.

I am interested in roslyn's note in that she was evacuated to Frys Farm in 1939. My family lived in the cottage next door and we also
had evacuee's from Bethnal Green.Their family surnames were Thompson and Kelleher.

This article was the best thing I've read about the town where my ancestors originated. It sounds like an incredible little town much like the one where I grew up. I am descended from the William Culmstock who came to New England shortly after the Pilgrims. I can't wait to visit!

It was interesting to see where my ancestor (William Comstock)came from in the middle 1600s to America.

My ancestors moved from Culmstock to Bath in 1851, it's a mystery why two single people living in such a beautiful village would move to a Victorian city and marry (in Bath) after a few months, when I visited this village I thought it truly wonderful

Hello, This is more of a question than a comment but perhaps you can help me out. My father has traced our ancestors back to the village of Culmstock, hence our surname "Comstock". I would like to know if it is possible to travel to Culmstock with public transportation from London. I currently live in Newport Pagnell, England and would like to travel to Culmstock with my family when my parents come to visit later this month. Thank You

I have been to Culmstock a number of times, and enjoyed every visit. My favourite aspect would have to be the small river or stream running through it that makes it a picturesque country village.

I was interested in Culmstock as some of my ancestors came from the village dating back to about 1800 and possibly earlier. The description given here has made me want to come and visit during the summer months.
