Photographer Peter White lives in South Devon, so knows where all the best places are.

In his latest book (he's also produced a book of photos, Dartmoor Moods), he's focused on the South Hams.

Cellar Beach, River Yealm
Cellar Beach, in the mouth of the Yealm
He must have been spoilt for choice, with the coastline, rivers, lovely towns and villages, and the southern edge of Dartmoor all within the district's boundaries.

The book is called Moods of the South Hams, and the mood which comes across most from the photos is tranquility.

There are the churches, such as those in Ashprington and Loddiswell; the little coves bathed in blue skies; the golden sand; the serene looking villages; and more than anything, there is the blue sea and rivers.

But the South Hams also has its rugged features, such as the rocky areas of the coast (Bolt Head, Westcombe Beach), and the tors of Dartmoor (Sharp Tor).

The rolling countryside is also captured in all its glory, such as around Holbeton.

The River Yealm must be one of the author's favourite spots, because it is well represented in the book.

Boats and water in the sun; boats and water in the mist; boats and water at sun-up/sun-down - all are prominent, and it's these images which really sum up the South Hams.

The book is jam packed with glorious photos of a beautiful area, and will add to the collection of those who love this fabulous part of the world.
