Children's rights website is launched

The new website will improve communication

Young people who are in the care of social services in Torbay are being given the chance to shape their own future, with the creation of a new website.

A website has been launched in Torbay, aimed at "connecting" with young people who are looked after by the resort's social services.

The launch, in December 2004, follows a similar project by Devon County Council.

The Torbay website - called Torbay Children's Rights - provides news and information for young people who are being assisted by social services.

It also enables them to give feedback to the authority about the service - and there's an opportunity to help shape the development of the website.

The project is a joint initiative involving Torbay Council, Devon County Council, the Torbay Primary Care Trust, and the charity, The Children's Society.

Children's Rights co-ordinator Cheryl Owens said: "The creation of this website will greatly benefit young people across Torbay.

"It will ensure they have all the inforamtion they need - literally at their fingertips.

"With a website we can reach even more people, and it is easy to link up with other agencies.

"Every child should be able to participate in the decision making process. Thanks to this collaboration we can ensure that young people are the ones to shape their own future."
