Our five part Advent series casts the familiar nativity story in a new light. |
 | | | We are celebrating the Christmas season with a specially commissioned Advent series which you can listen to from the comfort of your home.
Written by South Molton's Mayor and Methodist Minister, The Reverend Tony Cox, the five part series examines the story of the Nativity from unusual perspectives.
Bethlehem was packed. There were no hotel rooms left, and no inn beds available. Mary and Joseph had to sleep in a barn with the animals.
We suppose that as the inns were full, others were more fortunate and had a bed for the night.
 | | The Advent series has been written by The Reverend Tony Cox | We've all heard the stories of the Magi, the Shepherds and the Angels.
In this five-part series, Tony tells the stories of some of the other people who may have been in town that night.

In part one we hear the story and thoughts of the camel driver hired by the Wise Men.
He's been told to "follow that star", and being a down-to-earth sort of fellow thinks it's all a bit bizarre.
Part two meets the brother of the innkeeper, a retired Temple official from Jerusalem and a man who knows his position in life.
He's relaxing and, over a drink, tells us his take on life and the events culminating in Bethlehem that night.
In part three, young David the shepherd boy is a "gofer" for everyone!
His view of the world is fairly simple and his loyalty lies with his sheep. David is besotted by King David, his namesake.
In part four we meet Jo (Joseph!), a key figure in the whole Nativity story.
Joseph mulls over the happenings that have changed his life.
The final part of the series meets all the characters on the morning after the night before: Christmas day.
The Reverend Tony Cox has been described as Luton's greatest export. He's not only the town's Methodist minister but also Mayor.
Tony spent seven years in Africa working for the Methodist Church and it was his experience there which helped BBC Radio Devon win a New Century Radio Award in 2001.
The music accompanying the series is Jesus Child and Silent Night is played by the City of London Sinfonia, arranged by John Rutter.
The series was originally broadcast on BBC Radio Devon.
