| | | Making a film for Vanland |
| | Vanland is a unique project, giving young people in a rural part of the county the chance to put on film what it's like living "out in the sticks." |
 | | | Are you a teenager in rural Teignbridge, with a story to tell about country life?
If so, Vanland could be right up your street...literally.
Vanland is a three year project, offering the opportunity for young people aged 14-19 to make a short film about living in a rural area.
It doesn't have to be a documentary - the story can be told in the form of a drama, comedy or even fantasy.
It's run by Dartington-based performance company, Blind Ditch.
This is the second year of Vanland, and last year, 12 films were made with the help of the professionals from Blind Ditch, and later shown at 13 events across the district.
 | | Looking down "The Perfect Hole" | Among the films were "The Mystery of the Moor Mower" - a mockumentary in which a film crew at Widecombe-in-the-Moor searches for an elusive man who's been seen endlessing lawn mowing Dartmoor.
"Out" is a drama where young people from Buckfastleigh look for a way to escape the boredom of their school holidays.
And "The Perfect Hole" is about two boys who search Moretonhampstead for the best hole to live in.
To take part in 2005, would be film-makers must attend workshops at Moretonhampstead and Christow on 31st May to 3rd June, and complete a consent form.
 | | "Out" is set in Buckfastleigh | The completed films will go on a tour of 11 events in Teignbridge throughout July, August and September 2005 - in a two-berth touring caravan which has been specially converted.
Cat Radford from Blind Ditch says it gives the contributors a creative voice: "We introduce the young people to the camera, help them develop ideas, and then edit the film.
"The great thing is that it's all done in their locality, and the editing is done in their local youth club.
"They can tell their story in which ever way they like, and last year the films were anything between one minute long and eight minutes long."
