| | BBC Radio Devon journalist Jo Bishop has got itchy feet again. Two years after a charity trek around the county, she's dug out her trainers for the 2005 London Marathon. And it's all in a good cause. |
 | | | After walking around Devon's county boundaries in aid of cancer, BBC Radio Devon reporter Jo Bishop now has her sights set on completing this year's 25th London Marathon.
Jo completed the marathon in around 4 hours 59 minutes, and afterwards admitted: "It's the hardest thing I've ever done." |
Jo, who 'celebrates' her 40th birthday in May, has been in training for the 26 mile run for months and reckons she's as ready as she'll ever be for the event on Sunday 17th April.
For this run, she'll be on the road for around four hours....In 2003, she pounded the streets (and the coast path!) for 29 days, as she walked 460 miles around Devon to raise £17,000 for the BBC Radio Devon Chestnut Appeal.
This time, Jo - BBC Radio Devon's East Devon reporter - is running in aid of Help the Hospices. She says running the London Marathon has been an ambition ever since an A-level project 20 years ago.
 | | Jo with her dog Bella, who joined her on her Devon walk | "When I was at college doing my A-levels I chose to write a beginner's guide on how to run a marathon as part of a communications project.
"At the time I used to do a little running to keep fit and seeing the London Marathon on television was an inspiration.
"I completed the project, but the longest event I did at the time was a three-mile fun run!
"After college other things took over from running, but I've always carried a dream of entering the London Marathon.
"This year with my 40th birthday coming up it seemed like a good idea to finally realise my marathon ambition."
Jo limbered up for the big day by completing the Liverpool half marathon on 13th March in a time of 1hr 59mins.
She's hoping to raise £2,000 for Help the Hospices. The money will be used to fund outreach nurses to provide care and support in people's homes.
"I think the Hospice movement does terrific work," said Jo. "I've seen their dedicated support help family and friends and through my job as a reporter I've been really impressed with the caring service they provide and I know they rely on donations for most of their income."
