Wedding day

It's my last blog. Firstly I would like to apologize that I wrote so little. But to say the truth I have had a very busy month. Maybe in the future I will be able to write for you something more about my country and my city.

Last weekend I spend on my cousin's weeding. There was a lot of fun! On the weeding, there are "oczepiny" and then we play In many games. For example, the bride throw her flowers and this girl, who catch it, is the future bride.

The most funny game was playing with chairs. There are for example ten girls and nine chairs. The girls are walking around chairs and there is played a music. When the music stops every girl have to sit on her chair alone. The girl without chair is looser. And finally there is one girl who is a winner. But in the middle of the game girls have to sit with special things for example a glass with vodka or with a man's trousers. So there is usually a lot of laugh.

And what traditions do you have during weeding?

My city

Hi everyone!

I have been very busy lately and I have so many things to do so this post won't be very long.
This weekend I'm going for my cousin's wedding and it will be party with a folk band. So I hope that there will be a lot of fun.

I promised to tell you and show you something more about my city. You can check it out on the Internet. I'm living in Krzeszowice. It's a rather small city and because of it I love this place. It's not crowded or devastated.

I don't want to write for you about history of this place because it's very long. But I will give you a few interesting facts.

Krzeszowice was set up in 1286 and in this period was named Cressouicy. For me it sounds French. Later, Krzeszowice became ownership of Tęczyński family. Near Krzeszowice there is a ruined castle which belonged to this family. You can see it in the photo.

Krzeszowice was a spa in the past. We have here healing waters. In this picture you can see a water intake. This blue emblem is representing Potocki family which was founder of spa.

In this picture, there is a shrine with water intake. When it's warm weather you can smell a characteristic aroma of healing water. I can describe it as rotten eggs.

And here is our palace. It was build in 1850 for Potocki family. Now it's very devastated but it was a beautiful building in the past. It's surrounded by a big park with a exotic plants. During the Second World War, it was a residence of Hans Frank. One summer it was visited by Adolf Hitler. After the war there was an orphanage. Now it's empty.

In this photo you can see Devil's Bridge.

There is a lot of interesting places in my city which I would like to show you but because a lack of time I can't take photos.

Greetings for everyone.

Urban legends

Hi.
Today I would like to answer one question first. It's about my capitol city Warsaw. I have to say that this question surprised me because I have never notice it. And here is the question:

"I would love to know more about your country and Polish culture. Also, please tell me why the capital city of your country is called 'Warsaw'? Is it because of the devastating war it saw during second world war?
With Regards,
Rajeeb"

So I decided to write about it.

There are many legends about it how this city comes into being. But firstly you have to understand that in our language Warsaw is written and pronounce Warszawa. One legend says that name of city becomes from mythical people - Wars and Sawa. Sawa was a mermaid and she was in love with Wars.

The other story tells that name come from shout "Warz Sawa". Sailors shouted it when they reached a bank and they wanted to honor a good cook who lived in Warszawa.
But there is also historical explanation. In medieval Warszawa was called also Warszewa or Warszowa. It means that this lands where now is situated Warszawa, belonged to Warsz. Warsz was shortened form from Warcisław. I know that it's a little confusing now.

Maybe you don't know but Warsaw was completely destroyed during Second World War. One of destroyed buildings was Royal Castle and Old Town. I don't have my own photography of it but you can check it on the Internet. So castle was devastated by Swedish, German and Russian armies. But it was rebuilt and now it's on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. I think that it's interesting because as I remember from my classes our Royal Castle and Old Town are so faithful copies that they are excellent example for the entire world how historical monuments should be rebuilt.

I think that history is very important in our lives. In next post I will show you my city. For me, it's beautiful and I love it. We also have a palace but unfortunately it's still devastated and empty. We have also a lot of gardens. When it is spring it seems that everything is green.

We also have our urban legends. For example there is very old and ruined bridge which is called "Devil's Bridge". In the past it was called "Angelic Bridge" because it was decorated with statues of saints. The legend says that once a year there is a convention of devils and bad spirits and witches. So it's now called "Devil's Bridge". According to the other legend there is a hidden treasure under the bridge which is protected by devil.

And are you interested in yours local history? I love to read about history of my city because then I can imagine how it looked in the past.

Thanks for reading it

Poland's national sport!

Hi!
It's a great pleasure to be your blogger for this month. I would like to apologize for my English because I know that it's not perfect.

My name is Caroline and I'm from Poland. I live in a small city in the south of Poland. I'm studying geography and I would like to be a guide someday.

I would like to write about our "national sport" in Poland. Now we are in the end of long holiday which lasts 9 days. When I first thought about my first topic for this blog I wanted to write about our Constitution Day but yesterday I have this idea to write about the other thing.

For these days I was mostly reading a book and enjoying beautiful weather. But evenings was reserved for our favourite activity - grilling. I think that in Poland it is our new "national sport" because it doesn't matter if you are living in the big city or in the country. It doesn't matter if you love eating meat or not. Because the most important thing are people. We are gathering around grill and we spend this time talking, laughing and singing. There is also some alcohol drinks but the most important are grilled sausages or baked potatoes. I know that it isn't very healthy like riding a bicycle or jogging. But we can strengthen relations with people.

Except eating grilled sausages we like to eat baked potatoes. And here we are making it in special holder.

Here you can see how baked potatoes looks. It is mix of potato, carrot, sausage, onion.

And here my brother is preparing sausages. He needs special stick to grill sausage.

And what do you think about grilling? Do you like it? I have to admit that I love it because I can spend my time with my friends and family and there is always a lot of fun.
