The Bitesize Parenting Teens Podcast is about navigating life as the parent of a teenager. Actor and comedian Kerry Godliman hosts a different celebrity guest each episode - they listen to real questions and worries from parents, share their own experiences and get tips and advice from trained experts.
In this episode, singer and TV presenter Jamelia, talks to Kerry Godliman about being mum to four daughters - parenting teenage girls, the influence of social media, and the issues around body image that life online can bring. We also hear from a mum who is sick of the sight of her son's untidy bedroom - and what the panel advises she does about it.
Should I let older teens stay over?
Kerry, Jamelia and guest expert Dr Lucy Foulkes (a psychologist at the University of Oxford, researching adolescent mental health) also discuss helping teenagers manage relationships and sex and explore attitudes elsewhere in the world to this.
Does experience help when parenting?
Jamelia also talks about how her attitude to parenting has changed with age and experience. With a big gap between her eldest and youngest girls, she shares how her parenting now differs to her approach when she was younger. Lucy Foulkes talks about the importance of picking battles and compromise.
How is social media affecting parenting?
Jamelia shares her worries about social media - especially for teenage girls. They also discuss the sorts of things their teenagers are seeing when they scroll - from memes to more soothing content on baking and knitting - and how curating your algorithm on socials can help.
